Spokesman Jim Sughrue (shuh’-GROO) says in a news release that 24-year-old Jaqwan Julius Terry of Raleigh was killed and Officer B.F. Burleson was shot in the leg. One officer was wounded.

The chase ended with shots being fired, and Sughrue said the unidentified man and a police officer were taken to a hospital.

Witnesses tell WAVY sister station WNCN that shots were fired after police approached a house on Donald Ross Drive and a foot chase ensued.

The man had left the area by the time police arrived, but he reappeared a short time later in the street nearby, police said. Officer Beausoleil, 30, was hired in March 2008.

He says both officers will be placed on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated.

“There’s a man with a gun outside and he is trespassing because he is not supposed to be here!” the woman said.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the shooting, and the Raleigh Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit will review the incident to determine if any policies were violated.
