Spain’s airport authority says Seville airport was closed for just over two hours after the pilot of a micro-light aircraft lost consciousness and a passenger crashed the plane during an attempted emergency landing.
Air traffic controllers had to talk the woman through the landing procedure for about 90 minutes before she was finally able to execute a crash landing.
In released recordings of their conversation, the controller can be heard reassuring the woman, “You’re going to continue and you’re going to land without any problem, OK?”
Seville… The woman’s ordeal happened near the south-western Spanish city. In recordings that were published in the Diario and confirmed by the USCA, the controller asked the woman for the plane’s altitude, and she answered that it was at 10,000 feet.
A Spanish woman who had never flown before was forced to crash-land a plane after her pilot husband lost consciousness during the flight.
The woman was taken to a hospital, having suffered multiple injuries including burns and contusions.
After staff at the airport were told by the woman about the situation they dispatched a helicopter to help her guide the small plane to the runway as safely as possible.
