Man missing after sailboat sinks near Bay Bridge

– A search is underway Sunday afternoon for a missing boater after a sailboat accident occurred north of the Bay Bridge. The group was on a 17-ft center console boat that swamped and sunk stern first near the bridge. The boat began taking on water after they had gone under the bridge and were returning to the north side of the two spans. “It was so fast the passengers did not have time to put on their life jackets”.

Among those rescued was the missing man’s son, according to officials. Their condition is unknown.

The Coast Guard took the five individuals to Sandy Point and placed in the care of emergency medical services.

There have been 16 boating fatalities in Maryland this year.

Officials say the missing man is from Upper Marlboro.

The boater helped the four children and adult, who speak Spanish, out of the water after their boat sank and called the Coast Guard.
