Man of Steel 2 Heads Into Active Development

According to The Wrap, DC is now actively developing a sequel to MAN OF STEEL, or rather, a standalone Superman flick. A source “close to the project” told The Wrap that the new Superman movie is a “top priority” for the studio. Pictures and New Line Cinema will release a slate of at least 10 movies-as well as stand-alone Batman and Superman films. The Zack Snyder-directed redo was a solid hit, earning $668 million at the worldwide box office, but it didn’t garner the same enthusiasm as Nolan’s Batman films.

The year was 2013, and Warner Bros. had only just rebooted the Superman movie franchise with Man of Steel, when an announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con.

Superman, however, may have to wait his turn.

After being put on permanent hold, Man of Steel 2 is reportedly back in development. That didn’t happen, but once Batman was mentioned, he wouldn’t go away. Or will Warner Bros. save the return of Superman for his own sequel? At this point, a safe bet would be the 2018 date will end up being Ben Affleck’s Batman film and the 2019 film would be this Superman movie, but that’s pure speculation. Superman remains an incredibly popular character in general, but fans have had mixed reactions to the current big-screen version of the character played by Cavill, with many complaining that he seems too dour and too cold.

Warner Bros. and DC haven’t confirmed that a Man Of Steel sequel is in the works again, but Henry Cavill is expected to reprise his performance as both Superman and unrelated Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent.

Clearly, it looks like Warner Bros. wants to take another chance on one of the world’s most iconic superheroes.
