Man’s standoff with police continues at south Anchorage home

A man who barricaded himself inside a home in the Campbell Park neighborhood Thursday morning surrendered to police and was placed into custody. They have been unable to make contact with the potential assault suspect.

Anchorage police continued Thursday to monitor a south-side home where shots were fired Wednesday and a man refuses to come out.

In the second incident, police Thursday afternoon with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested 29-year-old Joseph Szajkowski on assault and kidnapping charges.

Officials say they continue “efforts for a peaceful surrender”.

An afternoon release from police stated homes in the area have been evacuated and officers will assist residents and school children to homes near the barricaded subject.

ORIGINAL STORY:An armed stand-off on the 2900 block of Misty Springs Court began early Thursday morning after police were contacted by a mother that reported that her daughter “had been assaulted and threatened by her significant other with weapons inside of a residence” at that location.

Officers reported on Nixle that they responded to the residence on Misty Spring Ct.

Police on Wednesday afternoon attempted to deploy gas to force the man out of his home.

One officer was transported to a hospital for treatment. All schools in the district were operating normally by 11:10 a.m.

The Anchorage Dispatch News reports that more than a dozen shots were heard not far from the scene where an armed man has been barricaded.
