Weitzel told investigators he took Isaiah to the park to play and then began thinking of ways he could kill him.

Weitzel is charged with attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and vehicular assault.
According to court records, Weitzel entered the auto with his son and fastened his own safety belt, though he neglected to do the same for Isaiah so as to increase the likelihood that he would die.
He also told an Arapahoe County sheriff’s investigator that while he put on his own seat belt before the crash, he purposefully did not buckle in his son or place him in a auto seat, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Weitzel told Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies he was traveling between 65 and 75 miles per hour when he rammed his vehicle into a parked auto in the neighborhood.
During his police interview, Weiztel said he used cocaine before the crash.
A GoFundMe site says Isaiah “ripped a muscle in his neck, putting him in a neck brace”.
The crash occurred at 11:05 a.m. and was witnessed by several people. “He needs to be in jail for a long time”. One witness called the police and said an adult in the vehicle was hitting a child.
The boy had been spending weekends with his father, according to the station.
Under questioning, Weitzel allegedly said he wanted his son dead because he couldn’t handle the responsibilities of fatherhood, the affidavit contends. “He can’t walk now; he’s not going to be walking for another two months”.
“He used to be a really good climber”, Lopez told KUSA of the child.
Bystanders rescued Isaiah and held him until officers arrived. “He’s really compassionate with other kids”.

“I heard a youngster crying but didn’t see him at first and then finally we saw the top of the baby’s head and saw dad hitting it like he was annoyed by the crying that was happening”, Rosa said.
