Boyd Jentzsch said his family, including his 7-year-old son, watched from inside their home, screaming as the ducks were run over.

Falbo was also sentenced to three years of probation.

On May 2, a family called police because they said Falbo, who works for a law care company, intentionally ran over the ducks that lived in their backyard. Falbo started to head toward the mother and her baby ducks when he then “ran directly over the ducklings and body parts were scattered all over the lawn”, the police report said. “There is no justification for what he’s done”, Jentzsch said.

At the time of the incident, Falbo reportedly said: “They were in my path, so I just kept mowing”.

Falbo was told by the judge during sentencing on Thursday that he was no longer allowed to own animals or to live with anyone who had pets, according to the Sun Sentinel.

He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of domestic battery for assaulting his then-girlfriend through strangulation. “He wasn’t even cutting the grass”. According to the police report, Falbo was upset with his girlfriend when she refused to tell him who she was texting on her phone.

The mother duck and a few ducklings were able to escape, but nine of the babies were killed.

Falbo’s employer, Reliable Lawn Care, said it was his first day on the job, but Mr Jentzsch insisted it was merely his first day on the mower, and that he had seen him working previously in the neighbourhood.
