One person was killed and another was critically wounded after gunfire broke out at a federal building in Lower Manhattan on Friday, New York police and fire officials said. FJC Security said it had found no links between Camara and Downing.

That New York City building houses a passport processing center, an immigration court and a Department of Labor regional office.

Officials say this does appear to be a random shooting and there doesn’t appear to be a motive.

“Camara… was an extraordinary senior guard who was well trained, cared deeply about his job and knew that building better than anyone else”, said Michael McKeon, a company spokesman.
Pascrell said that, in his office’s previous dealings with Downing, including a recent phone call with a staffer, there was no indication that Downing would turn violence – or that he owned a gun.
Closely armed police surrounded Downing’s residence at Harvard Place in Fort Lee about two hours later as a number of residences have been evacuated as a precaution, authorities stated. “For now, we are keeping Mr.Camara’s family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers”.
Federal police and NYPD are on the scene of a shooting outside a federal building located at the corner of Houston and Varick Street.

“We are shocked and horrified at this awful news and send our deepest condolences to Officer Camara’s family”, said Hector Figueroa, president of 32BJ Service Employees global Union.
