A family friend reportedly said that Riley was with a friend at the time of the shooting but got ahead and was out of sight.

“From what we know, there was no confrontation, there was nothing said back and forth”, said Kirby.

The website KGO-TV reports the statements made by John Kirby, Calvin’s long-time family friend who explained the random attack.

Sergeant Robert Jansing says the gunman did not try to rob Mr Riley in the incident.

Riley was weeks from starting his second season as a closing pitcher with the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs in Stockton, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Riley’s college coach, Reed Peters, told the San Jose Mercury News that Riley went to San Francisco with a friend from the East Coast to play Pokemon Go on Saturday night.

When the friend came back, he found Riley lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his torso.

It’s unclear whether the shooting was related to Pokemon Go, which quickly surged into popularity since its summer release. He brought the best out in all of us.

The game has been credited with getting people off of their couches, but also has resulted in many unintended consequences, like muggings and vehicle crashes. Calvin is one of the most sincere, honest, nicest person anyone could ever meet. He possessed a great arm, great curveball, and a bulldog mentality that you loved to have with the game on the line. “We will all keep Calvin’s family in our prayers during this incredibly hard time”.

A GoFundMe page was set up for Riley’s funeral by his cousin, who wrote that, “When we got a call at 4:30 am saying he’s gone, I thought I was having a bad dream”.
