Two major employers in downtown Charlotte have their employees back at work after protests were more peaceful in the wake of the shooting of a man by a city police officer.
Tanner said she did not have a “clear line of vision” and did not see what happened to Carr.
Protesters on Thursday night called on police to release dashcam video of the confrontation, although Putney has said that he does not anticipate releasing the video. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. Charlotte officials tweeted that the shot was sacked by a civilian, and not a Charlotte officer.
The video was not immediately released, and Putney did not say what the motive in Carr’s shooting might have been. Police said the black man had a gun, while neighbors and his family said he was holding a book.
Officials say that unless revoked, the curfew will remain in place for as long as the city’s state of emergency, declared by the governor late Wednesday, continues.
He’s accused of shooting and killing a man amid protests on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, organizers are planning weekend protests in Atlanta as a response to the police shooting deaths of Terence Crutch in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Scott in Charlotte.
Carr was shot during a chaotic demonstration that began as a vigil in memory of Keith Lamont Scott, 43, who was shot by a plainclothes officer identified as Brentley Vinson.
The business district, known locally as uptown, has been on edge Thursday after two nights of chaotic protests that included vandalism and injuries.
About 50 feet away, about a dozen Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers sat on bicycles observing the protesters. The officer has been placed on leave while that shooting is investigated.
No charges have been filed in connection with the shooting during the protests.
