It’s the third fatal police shooting of a suspect not carrying a gun since March 2014 and the second since December.

San Francisco police put up crime tape at 19th Street and Van Ness Avenue after officers shot a suspect they say was armed with a knife.
Suhr says the unidentified victim is in extremely critical condition at a local hospital. Seven casings were recoverd from the scene, the chief added. Responding officers reported that the man then charged officers and two of them opened fire, Suhr said.
KNTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1VAuPIA ) that the commission on Wednesday discussed the stun-gun policy, as members of the San Francisco Police Department can’t agree on when the weapons would be used.
Siegel and others who live and work in the neighborhood said there is a longstanding homeless encampment along the east side of Shotwell where the shooting occurred. Nieto carried a stun gun for his job as a security guard. Witnesses told reporters, however, that the man did not brandish a knife. The union representing police officers has called for equipping officers with Taser Stun guns. They say the man had stuffed the knife into his waistband before he was shot.
Interviewed by the Chron, a man identifying himself as John Visor said that he was ten feet away from the encounter. “He didn’t have the knife in his hand when he was shot”. They said Jose liked to collect bottles and cans for recycling and enjoyed kicking a soccer ball, sometimes late into the night and to the occasional annoyance of pedestrians.
