The 21-year-old Mia Ayliffe-Chung died at the scene Tuesady night in the town of Home Hill, in northern Queensland.

The Frenchman who viciously stabbed a lovely British backpacker to death in an Australian hostel professed that he was “going to die soon” on social media moments before the vicious attack.

The man accused of murdering British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung was Tasered and sprayed with pepper spray after lashing out at Queensland police and biting an officer.

Ayad is due to appear at Townsville Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of serious animal cruelty and twelve counts of serious assault.

Gollschewski said that investigators will examine whether mental health issues or drugs misuse were motivations.

Ms Ayliffe-Chung was just days into a three-month stint on a Home Hill farm as part of her visa extension in Australia.

“It is alleged that the suspect used the phrase “Allahu Akbar” during the attack and when arrested by police”.

He also said there was an indication that Ayad had taken cannabis on Tuesday evening and police confirmed he had shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the alleged attack.

Police said they were not ruling out any motive.

Tom Jackson, 30, from Congleton, Cheshire, was critically injured trying to stop the attack on Mia Ayliffe-Chung near Townsville, Queensland.

Amy Brown, a co-worker from the bar Ayliffe-Chung worked at in Surfer’s Paradise described her as a lovely person.

“Any line of inquiry that takes us to global law enforcement we will follow”, she said.

Townsville Regional Crime Co-ordinator Ray Rohweder told reporters Smail Ayad became violent against officers as they drove him from hospital to the Townsville Police Station, where he is expected to be formally questioned on Thursday.

Detective Superintendent Ray Rohweder said he would appear in court via videolink.

Police said the Frenchman was legally in Australia on a temporary visa and was not known to authorities.

Miss Ayliffe-Chung’s boyfriend, Jamison Stead (23) remembered her as a “beautiful soul” who had “fallen in love with the country and its people”. “It’s sad knowing that she won’t be able to do those things”. “It felt as though she was reminding us all of the beauty and possibilities we each have that we should live to the full”.

Australia, a staunch USA ally, has been on heightened alert for attacks by home-grown Islamist radicals since 2014 and authorities say they have thwarted a number of plots.

Her mother Rosie Ayliffe said her daughter was “an awesome young woman with an adventurous spirit”.
