Man Suspected of Shooting Two Officers Ends Standoff With Police
An Arkansas county sheriff says a man suspected of killing a deputy and wounding a police chief has been taken into police custody.

Jones surrendered to police negotiators after an hours-long standoff in Sebastian County, KFSM-TV reported.
Cooper remains in extremely critical condition at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith.
Hackett Police Chief Darrell Spells was one of the law enforcement officers shot on Wednesday.
It happened before 7:20 a.m. outside a residence in the 4700 block of Arkansas 253, which is between Greenwood and Midland.
Police released a picture of the suspected shooter and named him as Billy Jones.
Other deputies had to dodge gunfire while they pulled the two injured officers to safety.
Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown is responding with deputies for assistance.
When officers arrived on the scene, Jones began shooting and a robot from the Fort Smith Bomb Squad was deployed to provide surveillance on the home.
Police negotiators and armed surrounded the mobile home before the suspect was arrested.
Billy Jones is barricaded inside his home, according to Phillip Peevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department.
The governor says he didn’t have details about the Wednesday morning shooting in Hackett.
Several law enforcement agencies from local counties and police departments across the River Valley, including Crawford, Logan and Scott counties.
Per a report from CNN, one of the officers shot early Wednesday has reportedly died. Arkansas State Police is providing assistance but referred calls to local authorities. “I join with all Arkansans as we mourn the passing of this selfless servant and keep his family and loved ones and all of the law enforcement community in our thoughts and prayers”.

Court records show Jones has had a drug conviction in state court along with a handful of minor charges, such as speeding and public intoxication, in nearby Greenwood.
