Reports say the trouble was caused by a fence jumper – but these remain unconfirmed. “There was a jumper at the EEOB”. In the past, fence-jumpers attempting to hop the White House fence have triggered similar security responses.
The suspect is in custody, according to CBS News.
The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. near the Old Executive Office Building, and put the White House into a brief lock-down.
A Fox News reporter’s live report from the White House was cut short when Secret Service agents started clearing tourists from the sidewalk, Breaking911 reported.
Press were not being allowed in or out of the building as of about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Secret Service agents initially refused comment following the incident. Earlier on in April, a man was arrested after jumping over the north fence of the White House shortly before midnight.
