The incident is taking place at Asylcentre Nyborg, which has room for up to 500 occupants. Police officers and a rescue team have been sent to the site.

Initial questioning suggested “love worries” may have underpinned the man’s threats, police said. The 22-year-old Iranian resident climbed onto the asylum centre’s roof shortly after 11am. “Police and emergency workers are on location and the residents of the centre are being evacuated”, police wrote in a press release. He said: “It was reportedly heartache that made the mean threaten to blow [himself up]”.

Police say they have no further information at this time.
