Manchester United have been coming on strong as of late after a tough overall start both in league play and some cup play. But the former Real Madrid manager has silenced his critics with United winning eight straight games in all competitions.

Manchester United host Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash as Jose Mourinho moves closer to earning his first piece of silverware in charge. The home side is in terrific competition and has won their last five games heading into this tie.

Hull have only ever beaten United once – a 2-0 victory in 1952.

Manchester United: de Gea; Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Darmian; Pogba, Herrera; Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Martial; Ibrahimovic.

This will be the second semi-final match in consecutive years for Manchester.

He is, however, England’s leading all-time goalscorer, and also equalled the legendary Sir Bobby Charlton record with his 249th effort in their FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has said that he pushes himself to the limit “all the time” and explained that he needed his recent two-month break from action after he played against Chelsea on October 23 with a broken toe.

“In the next match against Hull City we are going to play again with fresh players”.

However, the 24-year-old is determined to put his injury set-backs behind him and finally establish himself as a first-team player. To get to the final is not easy.

With some injured, some away on African Cup of Duty, in terms of a team news update centre half Michael Dawson remains a doubt following the shoulder injury he picked up against Swansea City. Hull City need to take their game level a notch higher to make a match out of it.

Manager Jose Mourinho has already said that the starters who got rest in the 4-0 demolishing of Reading in the FA Cup will be back in the first team against Hull.
