Man United boss backs previous season flop to shine

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested Adnan Januzaj could be the solution to the club’s striker shortage this season.

Shaw got off to the worst possible start at United on last summer’s pre-season tour, when van Gaal declared him unfit and made him train on his own.

Shaw is expected to begin the new season as the first-choice left-back.

“He was a young keeper during my time at AZ Alkmaar and I am delighted he is joining Manchester United“, Van Gaal said.

“He has the benefit that he’s an Englishman”.

Van Gaal has been busy in the transfer market this summer, bolstering his squad with the additions of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero as he attempts to mastermind a Premier League title challenge.

“I think that we have now a selection more balanced than previous year”.

“But when I was about to punch him, I decided not to do it. Instead of that, I punched a wall three times”, he said.

United cap their United States tour on Wednesday against Paris St-Germain, who are reportedly keen on signing the Premier League club’s unsettled midfielder Angel Di Maria.

The United manager has backed the left-back after he had a tough first season at United following his £30 million move from Southampton.

Do you believe that Luke Shaw will be an important player for Louis Van Gaal’s team this season?

In an exclusive interview with Squawka last year, Januzaj said that his favourite position was the number ten role although at this stage of his career he’s happy to play anywhere.

“But when it is this year I am very happy. I have of course spoken with Sergio and also with David and with me always the best shall be in the line-up so you have to fight”.

“It was our own decision because I wanted to work hard and achieve something this season”.
