Man United: Boss plays down Rashford start

But the youngster, left out of Allardyce’s first senior England senior squad in order to drop down for the Under-21s, isn’t guaranteed his first competitive start under Mourinho for their next match against Manchester City on September 10 – despite scoring the victor against them last time under Louis van Gaal.

Marcus Rashford’s dramatic late victor sparked wild celebrations in front of the Manchester United fans at the KCOM Stadium.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic goes close twice in the first half for United, while Wayne Rooney is denied by a brilliant first-half block from Hull captain Curtis Davies.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that midfielder Marouane Fellaini suffered a “bad” back injury in his side’s 1-0 victory over Hull City on Saturday, 27 August.

Marcus Rashford, who came on from the bench in the 71st minute, scored the late victor as his stoppage time goal made the difference between the two sides.

“We’ve got to focus on the worldwide break but obviously we have the big game against Manchester City when we come back”.

Rashford, who burst on to the scene last season under previous boss Louis van Gaal and was rewarded with a place in England’s Euro 2016 finals squad, will have thanked elder statesman Rooney for his victor.

“He can play but he can be on the bench, I don’t know”. And if the early signs are notably negative, the 28-year-old – fundamental to the early stages of the Mourinho era, starting all four games – could be sidelined for some time.

The kid is going to be playing a lot of matches this season.

United joined Chelsea on maximum points after three games.

Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan described his players as “magnificent” and said he hoped to resolve his own future with the club’s prospective new owners after the transfer window has closed on Wednesday. Everybody is speaking about him and Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] – they can play together as they showed today. I am getting on in training and waiting for moments like this.
