Man United: Critical Van Gaal cools Januzaj’s jets

Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, was not pleased that his team did not win by more goals against Aston Villa on Friday night.

Sounds familiar? Manchester United aren’t thrilling or anything close to that, but they keep on winning, beating Aston Villa 1-0 through a slick Adnan Januzaj goal.

“Obviously (I’m) feeling good after scoring the goal, obviously I’ve not had a game for a long time so my match fitness is not so good but I’m happy to score for the team an score the victor”, he said. And though United weren’t able to find a second goal – Memphis Depay squandered a wonderful chance to open his account, placing another exquisite Juan Mata pass just the wrong side of the post – they did, at least, spend the last half hour in charge of the ball.

It took United until November 22 to record their first away win last season and with Van Gaal having pinpointed his side’s away form as an area in need of improvement, he will hope that this win augurs well for the campaign ahead.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admitted he was delighted with both six points so far and Friday foot … We kept the ball better and scored the goal.

“We had more chances and bigger chances and we scored the goal which was fantastic”, he said.

They’re not going to click and start firing straight away and the frontline will look better when forward Rudy Gestede is fit enough to play for 90 minutes on a consistent basis. For all of his doubters, it’s worth remembering that it usually takes Rooney a few matches before he really gets up to full speed, which I’m sure he will get to sooner rather than later. We are eager to play it again and, as you know, the play-off round is here.

Manchester United were yesterday top of the Premier League, remarkably, for the first time since David Moyes’ first game in charge in August 2013.

He said: “I didn’t think there was too much in the game”. The main thing is our part in the ball possession of the opponent because we defended very well.

“But what these players do give me is everything”.

He told Sky Sports: “I thought we nullified them but we didn’t carry a threat ourselves, which is a little bit disappointing”.
