“I just asked the national team coach to not consider me for future call-ups for the German national team, because I want to end my global career”, he wrote on social media on July 29th.

Bastian Schweinsteiger says a move to a Major League Soccer club in the United States is an option if he can not regain a place in the first team of Manchester United.

It seems a long, long time since Schweinsteiger was lifting the World Cup trophy in Brazil after Germany’s extra-time win over Argentina. And the reception he received before kick-off was enough to reduce the 32-year-old to tears.

Bastian Schweinsteiger captained Germany for the last time in a 2-0 friendly victory over Finland in Moenchengladbach on Wednesday, receiving an emotional send-off to cap a 12-year worldwide career that included the 2014 World Cup title.

“We have a decision completely made about (Paul) Pogba, (Ander) Herrera, (Morgan) Schneiderlin, (Marouane) Fellaini and Michael Carrick (Schweinsteiger’s fellow central midfielders)”, he said last Friday.

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is still hopeful of having a future at Old Trafford, and is keen to wear their shirt again this season. We will have to see what happens in September.

Bastian Schweinsteiger made 18 Premier League appearances last season.

“I’m still very, very happy with the number of games I played for Germany, ” he said at a press conference.

While Schweinsteiger will bide his time in Manchester, he said a move to the United States and the North American league (MLS) could be an option in the future. “And I would love all of the players to go because it would mean that everybody is being selected for their national teams”.
