Man Utd boss Mourinho defends flat Pogba form

The United boss says it is just a matter of time before the French midfielder demonstrates his natural quality at Old Trafford following an underwhelming spell since his landmark £89m move from Juventus in August.

13 Premier League clubs broke their transfer records this summer as the English game bathed in £5.13bn of television rights money.

“The world-record player is always a question that will be open until somebody breaks the record”, Mourinho said, in comments published by British newspapers on Saturday.

“Euro final, no preseason, holidays, come back – it’s normal that in the first week he had the very good impact in the first game”.

“So the form will come naturally and will come with the team improving”.

Former United midfielder Paul Scholes feels Pogba would benefit from a player in the mould of Toni Kroos or Luka Modric alongside him.

Mourinho also believes the world transfer record tag is misleading.

It is a remarkable, record-breaking fee that sees Pogba stand alone as the world’s most expensive player ever – a price tag that appeared to weigh heavily in United’s disappointing back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Feyenoord.

Mourinho, however, says he has no doubt that Pogba’s form will pick up quickly.

Its been a little bit of a struggle for him so far, said Scholes, as quoted by the Daily Mail. I dont really know what position hes playing at the minute. He seems to be a little all over the place at times. I think hes trying to do too much on the ball.

“He’s trying to beat three or four players”.

But after successive defeats to Manchester City and Feyenoord, the fee for Pogba is nevertheless attracting attention.

“Just keep it simple now, Paul, ease your way in”.
