The Metro reports that United are close to reaching a deal for the forward and that they are hoping to agree to terms with him by next week.

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a bid for Barcelona forward Pedro amidst heavy rumours that Angel Di Maria will be signing for Paris Saint Germain in the coming weeks.

Manchester United may have turned their attention to free agent goalkeeper Sergio Romero to replace Victor Valdes, meaning De Gea may remain at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old scored 13 goals last season.

“Pedro? We’ll see, many things can happen in the world of football, but it’s very hard”, he was quoted as saying by Sport after Uniteds 3-1 win against Barca on Saturday.

When asked about Valdes’ feud with Van Gaal, Hoek told reporters: “I don’t want to talk about negative things”.

“He was also coach of our team and we know how strong, intelligent and clever he is, how he gets the best that is possible from his players, and United are going to be one of the top clubs this year, I’m sure”.

Van Gaal accused Valdes, 33, of not following his philosophy and revealed “there is no place” for the Spanish goalkeeper at Old Trafford.
