Man Utd stunned 1-0 by Feyenoord in Europa League opener

Beaten 2-1 by their noisy neighbours in the Manchester Derby and then on the wrong side of a 1-0 result against Feyenoord on Thursday, Jose Mourinho is under pressure for the first time since arriving at Old Trafford.

Tonny Vilhena powered home the victor on 79 minutes, but Nicolai Jorgensen appeared to be in an offside position as he broke down the wing before crossing to set up the only goal of the game.

It is United’s second defeat in less than seven days after last Saturday’s defeat against Manchester City.

This was United’s fourth consecutive away defeat in Europe after losses to Liverpool, Midtjylland and Wolfsburg, and Mourinho needs to return to winning ways at Watford on Sunday.

Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst: “In the second half you saw that Manchester United want to win with the tempo and the three substitutions, you sensed that they want to leave here with the win”.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Memphis Depay and Ashley Young were thrown on as Mourinho attempted to jump start his side, but their introduction could not prevent United’s winless run extending to a sixth European trip.

Keane said: “We’ve seen City have good starts before and they take their foot off the gas a little bit, but I don’t think it will happen under this guy”.

“When we won the Community Shield and the three league matches I was not on the moon, saying we are a phenomenal team who will destroy the opponent”, he said. “I know the situation is not click your fingers and everybody is flawless”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Only teenage striker Marcus Rashford, making his first start under Mourinho, played with any energy and imagination.

“It is normal when you fight for top positions that it happens but I have a very good, strong relationship with him”.

Manchester United are in Premier League action on Sunday, when they travel to Watford for a 12:00 BST kick-off. We were trying to win, they were trying not to lose. “The second half was different, it was exactly when we were trying to win and Feyenoord was trying not to lose that they scored the goal, which I think we didn’t deserve”, reported Goal.com. “Obviously some played better than others”, Mourinho said. It is in that moment where we lose the game and double unlucky because it is a clear offside.
