Man Utd turn to Sadio Mane after missing out on Pedro

The Red Devils were thought to be keen on the Spain international after United chief executive flew to Barcelona earlier on Monday in an attempt to conclude a deal for the World Cup winner.

There was an inquiry about the 23-year old from United last week, although the level of their interest is unclear given the subsequent failed pursuit of Barcelona winger Pedro this week.

The Telegraph are now reporting that United will focus their attention on Southampton’s Mane and have already made a surprise inquiry for the attacker.

Sport has confirmed that they have lodged a bid for 23-year-old Senegalese international.

Louis van Gaal’s side appear to have been beaten to Pedro’s signature by rivals Chelsea, with a mixture of cold feet and lack of movement on United’s part allowing the Blues to hijack the deal.

In that case, Mané will be holding his brand new United scarf above his head at Old Trafford within the fortnight.

United have a history with Southampton having brought in Morgan Schneiderlin and Luke Shaw from St Mary’s in recent years.

The Senegal forward joined Southampton last summer for £11.8m from Red Bull Salzburg and was an instant hit in the Premier League scoring 10 goals in 26 games.
