Rahami seemed to be lying low in New Jersey when local police were given a tip that a suspicious man was sleeping in the doorway of a local bar, according to Capt. James Sarnacki of the Linden Police Department.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the investigation.
TV footage showed Rahami on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance.
Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage says county authorities told him that the officers shot are expect to be OK.
-Associated Press writer Eric Tucker in Washington contributed to this report. There were no reports of injuries, and Bollwage said to expect more detonations. An employee and a recent customer said Rahami worked there. Authorities were also able to link the bombings to Rahami through cellphones that were created to be wired to some of his bombs.
Rahami’s father, Mohammad, and two of Rahami’s brothers sued the city in 2011 after it passed an ordinance requiring their restaurant, First American Fried Chicken, to close early because of complaints from neighbors that it was a late-night nuisance.
Her Republican rival for the presidency in November’s election, Donald Trump, wrote in a Facebook post: “Hillary Clinton’s weakness while she was Secretary of State has emboldened terrorists all over the world to attack the USA, even on our own soil”.
New Jersey State Police say that information comes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “It is highly disturbing and entirely unacceptable that 858 immigrants from risky countries have slipped into our country and been granted full USA citizenship because of the failed policies supported by President Obama and Hillary Clinton”. No one was injured in the explosion. Another pressure cooker bomb was found blocks away and defused.
A spokesman for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told the Times that Monday’s alert was “a first” for such a objective. He says Obama will comment publicly “relatively soon”.
President Barack Obama addressed the Chelsea bombings as well as the explosives found in New Jersey in a speech he gave Monday morning from New York City. “The evidence might suggest a foreign connection”, he said, according to Reuters.
Police in New Jersey have arrested Ahmad Khan Rahami in connection with bombings in Elizabeth, New Jersey and New York City. He is a naturalized citizen from Afghanistan.
The bombing suspect undergoes a surgery after a gun wound.
On Sunday, Cuomo had effectively ruled out a link to worldwide terrorism, saying there was no evidence to suggest that.
All of the people injured in Saturday’s Chelsea blast have been released from the hospital.
Terror attacks are increasingly global, but NY is a target and authorities and locals should always be in a state of readiness, Cuomo told reporters Monday at Penn Station, where he met with first responders.
Having previously ruled out a link between the Manhattan bombing and worldwide terrorism, NY governor Andrew Cuomo has now acknowledged “it may be foreign related”. His fingerprint was also allegedly found on one of the devices. Authorities were trying to determine if they were connected.
The New Jersey State Police issues a release on Facebook stating Rahami is wanted for questioning in relation to Saturday morning’s Seaside Park explosion as well. On Sunday, five explosive devices were discovered in a trash can at an Elizabeth train station.
