If a street dealer was the source, identifying that person will not be easy.

Generally prescribed by doctors for the treatment of cancer patients, fentanyl can be made illegally and has been known to cause many instances of death by overdose in the United States in recent years.

Last month, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Attorney’s Office joined the ongoing investigation into Prince’s death.

In a press release from the Ramsey Minnesota office, Prince’s death has been reported to be an accident due to “fentanyl toxicity” through “the decedent’s self-administered fentanyl”, which is an opioid.

Prince’s private plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois and the singer was rushed to a local hospital where the shot was administered.

Schulenberg saw Prince April 7 and April 20 – the day before his death – according to the warrant. Taking buprenorphine, he wrote, helps to eliminate the craving for opioids, as well as the symptoms of withdrawal.

Although his autopsy was performed the day following his death, results of toxicology tests typically take several weeks to come back.

In a new CNN op-ed, Kornfeld, a UC Santa Cruz graduate, confirmed he was the “pre-med student who flew out to Minneapolis to help Prince find the road to recovery but who ended up calling 911 instead”.

In the weeks before Prince’s death, the musician met twice with Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg, a 46-year-old family care physician who worked at a Minnetonka clinic a few miles from Prince’s Paisley Park studio and home, according to search warrant documents. Mauzy said he meant to give that medication to another doctor. Kornfeld was the one who called 911 to report that Prince’s body had been found.

The report once again shines a spotlight on fentanyl, a drug that medical experts call the new heroin, but deadlier. The artist then cancelled two concerts in St. Louis, Missouri shortly before his demise.

Prince – who had used a cane to help him get around for many years – had long needed a double hip replacement but reportedly turned it down on numerous occasions but he was anxious it would require a blood transfusion, which would have conflicted with his beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness.

This class of drug has claimed victims who became addicted through medical use, as well as those using the drug illicitly.

Meanwhile, Prince’s estate administrator is seeking to set a strict timeline to ensure anyone seeking a piece of the singer’s fortune fulfils a sworn affidavit, featuring a three-page questionnaire detailing parentage and birth certificate details, by 10 June (16). A woman and a girl have claimed to be niece and grandniece, and another woman has claimed to be a half-sister.

Some spoke of their dismay, while other expressed frustration that more information about the singer’s death had not yet been released.
