Man who named his dog ‘Buhari’ released

Mr John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State, on Tuesday lauded the efforts of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, for promoting religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for seeking emergency powers from the National Assembly to manage the economy.

Nigerian newspapers on Wednesday quoted Chinakwe as arguing in court that he named his dog because President Muhammadu Buhari is his hero.

On the economy, the President assured that the focus of his administration is on the diversification of the economy having learnt our lessons from years of over dependence on oil.

“Because they are deeply frustrated and alienated – and because they hope groups like Boko Haram will somehow give them a sense of identity, or objective, or power”, Kerry said after meeting with local religious leaders to discuss community building and countering violent extremism in Sokoto, Nigeria. On insurgency in Nigeria, Kerry commended the government determination to combat the menace and other crimes across the country. “We don’t want to interfere, but will offer opportunities as you require”, he added.

Kerry, for his part, was quoted as praising Buhari for his anti-corruption crusade while offering US assistance in a myriad of areas, including the economy and the fight against Boko Haram.

The event was witnessed by Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and and Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara states, including ýreligious, traditional and community leaders, as well as students.
