Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson reportedly beat the hell out of a guy last night, according to The Hill. But such hasn’t been the case for ex-NBA All Star Kevin Johnson, who’s now the mayor of California’s capital, Sacramento.
Following the incident, the mayor took to Twitter to tweet that he was doing “fine” and thanked the police who came to his rescue.
Thompson said he’s fed up with Johnson’s lack of help for the homeless with all his attention on his “golden” project, an arena named the Golden 1 Center.
Crystal Strait, Johnson’s chief of staff, told the Bee that Johnson didn’t even realize that he had been hit with a pie.
Do not hit Kevin Johnson with a pie.
“I felt the pressure to do something that I thought would at least symbolize and embarrass him so I made a decision to throw a pie in his face in a public situation like that”, he said.
Vellucci wrote in an email to the Associated Press that he met Thompson five years ago and described him as a nonviolent person who participated in some of the first Black Lives Matter protests in Sacramento in 2014 and in Occupy Sacramento rallies before that.
“He comes out when the cameras are out, and he speaks with a silver tongue”, Thompson said.
And when asked if he’d pie the mayor again, Thompson said: “Absolutely, I’d do it twice”.
One witness said the pie throwing was more violent than people might think. Bail for Thompson has been set at $100,000.
The final photo shows Johnson with coconut cream pie on his face.
Johnson’s response “probably is not a disproportionate reaction, though it might not be the reaction we want our public officials to have”, Little said. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
