The Seattle Police used Twitter to let everybody know the man was down from the tree and safe, accompanying the announcement with a picture of the popular tree-like Marvel hero, Groot.
“Law enforcement closed off a small, triangular city block at the base of the tree to protect the public from falling objects, including the man himself, who became a top trending topic on Twitter as “#ManInTree”.
The judge placed her decision on bail on hold and rescheduled his bond hearing for Friday. No charges have been filed.
The man spent much of Tuesday morning reclining quietly in the upper branches, but he resumed gesticulating wildly and shouting when two police officers tried to talk to him from sixth-floor windows of the Macy’s department store building next door. He threw apples and branches at responders.
He also ripped limbs off the tree and a city arborist said he did an estimated $7,800 in damage to the tree, which, police said, is “protected”. A man stands in an 80-foot tall tree in downtown Seattle, Tuesday, March 22, 2016, after he climbed almost to the top, disrupting traffic.
Seattle police on Thursday identified the man as 28-year-old Cody Lee Miller.
Officers initially kept their distance but soon approached Miller, got him on a gurney and took him to a hospital, where he received physical and mental evaluations, officials said.
Police say when authorities arrived, the man refused to speak with them and…
When Miller gave police a name, they could not verify it. The Seattle Times reports, he “ultimately told the officer his name was ‘Edward Cullen, ‘” who is a lead vampire character from the “Twilight” books and movies. He sat down and appeared to be eating a piece of fruit.
