Man yelled Islamic phrase in fatal Australian stabbing
A 21-year-old British woman was killed during the frenzied attack, which occurred about 11.15pm last night. According to Miss Ayliffe-Chung’s Facebook page she went to Buxton College to study childcare. “I literally can’t believe it”.

A female British backpacker was stabbed to death in the hostel where she was staying in Queensland, Australia on Wednesday afternoon (local time).
A French man allegedly shouting “Allahu Akbar” killed a 21-year-old United Kingdom woman in front of at least 30 people in the Australian state of Queensland on Tuesday night (23 August).
“This person appears to have acted alone”, he said.
No charges have yet been laid.
Gollschewski said while investigations revealed comments that could allege extremist Islamic motivations, it was not yet determined if the attack was terror related. One of the wounded men is in critical condition. “It is individual criminal behaviour”, Gollschewski said.
He said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with those families and their loved ones at this hard time”.
The 46-year-old man has been released from hospital. A dog was also killed in the attack.
Australian Federal Police Commander Sharon Cowden said the man was lawfully in Australia and not known to any authorities.
He said they were still trying to find out what he has been doing in the country since his arrival but he was not known to police before the attack.
“This is not about race or religion”.
“Our community should feel reassured that the investigation is thorough”.
Police were initially called to the today taking statements from 30 witnesses at the scene.
Authorities said they are not searching for any other suspect in connection to the attack “at this time”, reaffirming there is no ongoing threat from the incident. Our thoughts are with Mia’s family and friends at this terrible, bad time.
