Manchester City Clinch 3rd EPL Title in 7 Years

One of the emerging themes of this late season is the contrast between the consistent excellence required to win a league title and the ability to ride the emotional waves that often dictate success in knockout tournaments.

“It’s the same feeling as the first time, you can’t describe it”, Kompany told Sky Sports.

Based on three points for a win, Manchester City’s current points tally of 87 is the most by any side in English top-flight league history after 33 games of a season. Here are some of the most impressive stats from their title win. It’s unbelievable. It’s such an achievement and I’m proud of the team. “I’m proud of everyone involved”.

Kompany is also a big believer in Pep Guardiola and praised his impact on the club and squad.

But despite needing only five points to be certain of his first Premier League title, Guardiola says his side can still be caught.

“It’s incredible the way we played and I am so glad to be here and be part of this club”, Guardiola said. “It’s gone before you know it”.

The Londoners have won the southern division for the fifth successive year and, considering their dominance at FA Youth Cup level recently, they represent formidable opponents.

“Today I’m happy and I suppose my team-mates would roll their eyes a bit at this but I kind of want to see how the reaction’s gonna be now”.

Pogba’s form, particularly since the January signing of Alexis Sanchez, has been one of the fascinating sub-plots of United’s season with the player reportedly unhappy at the defensive responsibilities he has been asked to perform.

“Wednesday afternoon we will be back”.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola embraces with Kevin De Bruyne during the English Premier League soccer match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City at Wembley stadium in London, England, Saturday, April 14, 2018.

“Playing in the Champions League at that age, sometimes it’s complicated and maybe it’s a good lesson for them for the future and for next season”.

An approach to the game which has a lineage back to the Dutch “total football” of the early 1970s, taken to Barcelona by Johann Cruyff and which Guardiola has adapted and evolved, requires not only a top skillset from the players but a change of mentality.

And after the final whistle, the captain declared that this third title was for the fans.

Guardiola will not be watching United’s clash with West Brom, preferring instead to play golf with his son.

Kompany and Co posed for photos as they left the venue at 10.30pm, leaving to a chorus of “campiones, ole, ole, ole“.

Press Association was used in this report. “We want to stay humble about the fact that it’s not a dynasty.it’s one title and there is still so much work to be done before the full potential is unlocked”.

“It’s not a dynasty”. I think with my experience you don’t win titles with inconsistency.
