Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: I ‘believe’ in Adnan Januzaj

But reports also suggest that it was Van Gaal who took the decision to cut short his spell with Die Schwarzgelben.

The new Dortmund manager spoke of how Januzaj would often compare aspects of life at the German side to that of the set up at Manchester United, and as a result slowed down his development while on loan at the club. He played two full games in five Europa League appearances for Dortmund but again didn’t score. In those matches, Januzaj failed to register a goal or assist in 331 minutes on the pitch.

Januzaj did not start a single Bundesliga game during his time in Germany, but Van Gaal is not ready to give up on a 20-year-old who went to the World Cup as a teenager after his breakthrough season at United in 2013/14.

Januzaj had shot to fame in David Moyes’s reign when he scored a brace against Sunderland. So, that’s why we put him on loan.

“If you have talent you have to develop it. And we have to see that from him”.

The Manchester United boss is keen to see Januzaj play for the Manchester United Under-21s on Monday, and look to get back his sharpness after a frustrating few months at Dortmund.

Januzaj has returned to the his parent club, and Van Gaal stressed that he still believes the winger has a lot to offer to the Red Devils, but he wants him to prove his fitness first.

“I think it’s a very good habit to do that and I believe in the talent of Adnan Januzaj, I have said that also, and I have said already that it would be hard for him to play matches at Dortmund”.
