Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney’s place not sacrosanct, says manager Jose Mourinho

Earlier this week, Mourinho said football is “full of Einsteins” in a retort at criticism he has received following a poor run of form.

Ranieri resisted the temptation to gloat and he refused to be drawn into a war of words ahead of Saturday’s league game: “Mourinho is a fantastic manager, intelligent, clever”, he told reporters. That is frustrating. The Einsteins need money to live…

“I look at Leicester and they are very good”.

WATFORD, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 18: Wayne Rooney of Manchester United (L) argues with referee Michael Oliver during the Premier League match between Watford and Manchester United at Vicarage Road on September 18, 2016 in Watford, England. I am a good man of goodwill.

Underfire Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney said on Thursday he shuts his ears to criticism of his performances coming from outside the club.

“I should protect them, I would love to protect them, and from you [media] I can’t. For us it’s good, for him it’s good, it’s good when I have players who a lot of big teams want him, I’m very happy because that means we are working very well”, said Ranieri.

“We talked about that (discipline) because in the last two games we played against Chelsea with ten men so, of course, for the result tomorrow it will be important how we play football but as well the way we behave because discipline and results are strongly linked”. They can speak, they can write. I do lots of charity work. Leicester, meantime, prefaced a midweek EFL Cup defeat against Chelsea with consecutive 3-0 victories against Club Brugge and Burnley in the Premier League and Champions League respectively and have lost just five of their last 43 Premier League fixtures.

“I enjoy – 70,000 people is wonderful, fantastic”.

“If the fans have been disappointed with the last week, I understand completely but I am sure they will be behind the team like they always are”.

United defender Luke Shaw was said to be unhappy at being singled out for criticism for a mistake he made in the loss at Watford but Mourinho defended his stance.

We like to say a very good start to the season was better than we could expect, we were guilty to raise expectations of people. The critique helps people to learn how to cope with critics. “He is my captain, he is the club captain, he is the players’ captain and that is hard because sometimes you are the club captain because you have lots of years in the club”.
