Manchester United Coach Remains Coy Over Pedro Rumours

Manchester United coach Frans Hoek has hinted that the club might be in for Pedro Rodriguez. It was further being suggested that the club’s representatives were on the verge of having meetings yesterday to try and complete a deal for the forward.

Despite this, his quality is undoubted and holds a fine record both domestically and internationally, scoring 98 goals in 318 games for the La Liga giants and earning 51 caps for Spain. He is concerned at his lack of game-time at Barca ahead of Euro 2016 next summer.

Barcelona, missing superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar after their exertions in the Copa America, were left ruing a series of chances which hit the woodwork.

United are not too keen on paying the full £22m fee and might consider making a bid if they can negotiate a cut-price deal for their target.

Rafinha scored a late consolation for Barcelona in the 90th minute, lashing home a shot before Januzaj netted United’s third just 30 seconds later.

ESPN FC’s Steve Nicol contends that Pedro has no reason to leave Barcelona, and may not be what Manchester United need.

With Angel Di Maria set to move to Paris Saint-Germain, United are in the market for forwards this summer and Hoek, who has worked closely with Louis van Gaal throughout his career, including three years at Camp Nou, was guarded when asked about the club’s moves in the market.

Manchester United may have turned their attention to free agent goalkeeper Sergio Romero to replace Victor Valdes, meaning De Gea may remain at Old Trafford.
