Manchester United defender Luke Shaw returns from Eindhoven to continue

Manchester United will look to keep pace at the top of the Premier League when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.

The striker has been suffering with a hamstring injury recently and hasn’t played since last month’s defeat to Swansea City.

Van Gaal’s counterpart, Phillip Cocu said it was not the intention of Moreno to injury Shaw during the tackle.

Shaw required extensive treatment for almost 10 minutes during United’s Champions League game against PSV – which they lost 2-1 – after Moreno performed a sliding tackle on him in the box early on in the clash, which the PSV defender was not penalised for.

However, Van Gaal has revealed that Rooney and Phil Jones are being welcomed back to the first team, which is respite to the double leg break inflicted on Luke Shaw in United’s loss to the reigning Dutch champions on Tuesday.

He added: “Wayne is fit to play“. He’s only had one week out. He is not match fit but he is fit to train.

Memphis Depay, who has forged a close bond with Shaw since joining United from PSV in the summer, tweeted a picture of the pair with the message: “My man Luke, what an bad night”.

Luke Shaw will be spared the torment of completing his 500-mile return to Manchester from Eindhoven by land.

“The operation was a good operation but almost all the operations are always good“.

“It’s not easy, but his family are there”.

Speaking in a press conference, the Manchester United manager said: “When I said he is for the future I meant at 19, a player is not fully developed, but I didn’t say I won’t count on him“.

“We have time and also matches that we can improve in that way and we shall”.

‘His family is there – we have sent people with him and he will come back when he is prepared.

Louis van Gaal was devastated following the injury to his defender, and hopes to have him back before the end of the season.

“Maybe he shall come back tomorrow and then have a long period of rehab, so he still has a long way to go”. It’s also hard for the player who has to replace him.

He told reporters: “It has affected him, it has affected the others and it has affected me”.
