It remains to be seen whether Manchester United would be happy to wait until after 17th August, as Neymar is likely to be back in time for Barcelona’s opening La Liga fixture, also against Athletic Bilbao, on 23rd August. It is a position that is in his DNA.

Former Barcelona striker Thierry Henry believes that his former teammate Pedro Rodriguez would be an invaluable signing for Manchester United and would bring all of the traits that Angel Di Maria was lacking last season.

The Metro report that the Catalan giants want to keep hold of the 28-year-old for their UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla on Tuesday, but will not stand in his way after the two clubs agreed a fee, which Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport report is £24.7m (via Metro).

Arsenal’s all-time top goalscorer believes Pedro is a typical van Gaal player who will work hard for the team and while talking to The Sun, Henry said that he is a flawless winger and has great understanding of the wing play.

“Angel Di Maria’s game was based on running free from the right or the left”, Henry wrote in The Sunday.

“Pedro will be much more disciplined”.

After a bright start at Old Trafford, Di Maria soon lost his form and confidence under Van Gaal before eventually being sold.

Pedro fell down the pecking order at the Camp Nou last season, with the deadly trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar the preferred line-up in attack.

Pedro would become the club’s sixth summer signing, following the captures of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sergio Romero.
