Manchester United hold day two of Mourinho talks

Both United and Mourinho are tied to a variety of commercial deals, some of which could cause conflicts of interest should Mourinho, as expected, be appointed United’s next manager.

After a 29-year association with United, Giggs – now on holiday in Dubai after Saturday’s FA Cup final victory and Van Gaal’s Monday sacking – is said to be ready to leave Old Trafford to try to make a name for himself in management elsewhere.

Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, met United officials on Tuesday but a deal has not yet been announced.

Mourinho could be leaving negotiations in the hands of his representatives, but as he is Portugal bound he cannot be shown off by the Red Devils at Old Trafford today. “He knows how the club works”, he said.

Mourinho seems to have identified this problem in the Manchester United squad and has made Karim Benzema one of his top transfer targets for Manchester United, according to a report in the Independent. “I don’t think so”.

“I think Louis van Gaal and I have a very special relationship”, said Schweinsteiger, speaking at a press conference in Germany’s pre-Euro 2016 training camp in Ascona, Switzerland.

Sources have also told ESPN FC that Van Gaal’s assistant, Ryan Giggs, is considering his future as he is set to be offered a different role.

“I think it’s important that there’s some form of continuity”, he said.

“The past year they [United] showed they have really good young players”.

We’ve also dug out another clip, from United’s 2-0 Champions League win against Inter Milan in March 2009 – an Inter side then managed by Mourinho.

Bruce, not so much with what we’ll cover here, feels van Gaal’s dismissal could have been handled differently, and in a better way.

“In some ways it would be the ideal fit for United at this moment in the time”, Meulensteen told BBC Radio 5 Live. Without them saying “yes” to him, it would not happen.

“Now they have a guy that is supposed to be the biggest manager in the world, the one that really could save Manchester United”.
