Manchester United is on alert after reports from Germany that Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels will be handing his transfer request at the end of the season.

A handful of Manchester United fans enjoying a cold beverage here in the Tavern are ridiculously excited at this news, and feels Van Gaal should do everything in his power to lure the German worldwide to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ interest has cooled since the emergence of Chris Smalling at the heart of United’s defence but Hummels remains one of the best centre-backs in world football.

However, BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild, as translated by talkSport, that the reported fallout between Hummels and Tuchel is not true.

“Everybody gets criticised. Honestly, the massive criticism of the last days is unreasonably high in my opinion”, he said, as quoted by Goal.

He did concede that it is not always easy to keep Hummels happy, but stressed that the defender has the club’s complete support.

“Mats Hummels is a very important player for us”. I have an excellent relationship with him.

Hummels, who only played twice for Bayern’s first team between 1995 and 2009, has also racked up 44 appearances for Germany, scoring four times in the process. He is sometimes hard to take care of, but that is not always a disadvantage in terms of his quality. “There is nothing more to say about it”, he added.
