Manchester United players got carried away by derby win – Jose Mourinho

The re-arranged Premier League fixture on the south coast comes just three days before the Reds’ Emirates FA Cup semi-final showdown with Tottenham Hotspur at the national stadium.

Things have unravelled spectacularly this season, with Tony Pulis sacked in November and successor Alan Pardew plumbing even lower depths before exiting the Hawthorns.

The same cannot be said of the remaining three teams, who have very hard run-ins – and have to hope they can find the one win they probably need. (David) De Gea has made a great save in the first half from Jake (Livermore) and we had a couple of chances where we could have maybe done a little bit better, which has been a story of our season really.

“He’s positive in everything he does”. I think Man City have caught them and they’ve got caught in the blocks. Mourinho has had to try to make them into players they are never going to be.

Mourinho was asked in his post-match press conference on Sunday if he felt he was getting enough consistency from his more experienced players.

Both David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal have bought players that have failed to live up to expectations, just as they did as managers at the club.

‘I never spoke to him, ‘ said Raiola earlier this month. But we suppose the West Brom players played with Alex Ferguson’s quote in mind “Football, bloody hell!”. However, it has been a reversion to type this time around, with the Spaniard producing some phenomenal performances at crucial times in a season which has proved that United still have plenty to do to stem the flow of opportunities being offered up in their own box.

“I’ve given them a bollocking, and quite rightly”, said Ferguson.

If Pogba does go this summer – with PSG seeming a distinct possibility to come in for him – it will be with a reputation destroyed under Mourinho, who has consistently undermined United’s record signing by either dropping him, benching him or substituting him numerous times this season. Unfortunately he felt the need to defend his fragile ego and added in the following: “I trust in my work”.

“We deserve to be punished, but the defeat was too heavy”.

It is believed that the manager sees the Brazilian as a possible replacement for Pogba, whom he is said to have run out of patience with. Wilson, on the other hand has a terrific eye for goal and United’s lacklustre defending at the back on Sunday should be an eye opener for him as the 26-years old will be chomping at bits to open his account against Manchester United.

Pogba later joined Italian giants Juventus and had a stellar career with the club, before opting to return to United.
