Manchester United’s Guillermo Varela joins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan

“Manchester United and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached agreement for Guillermo Varela to join the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan, effective until 30 June 2017”, United said on their website.

Varela made a substitute appearance in Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of United at Wigan last weekend.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan made his first-team breakthrough last season, starting 10 matches in all competitions.

However, he has found his opportunities to be limited at Old Trafford.

Varela scored the last-minute title victor for United’s Under-21 side last season against Tottenham Hotspur and went on to appear 10 times for the first team.

Varela was advised that Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all ahead him in the pecking order at United.

Neither club has confirmed whether there is an option to make the move permanent, but Varela is unlikely to ever play for Manchester United again regardless.
