Manchester United’s league bid tougher due to Europa League, says Jose Mourinho

Maybe you forget as a player.

United has taken a strong squad to the Netherlands, although it is missing first-team regulars Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia as Mourinho looks ahead to Sunday’s Premier League game at Watford.

The rested players will watch from afar like the injured Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Phil Jones, who faces a month on the sidelines with lateral knee ligament damage. It’s not the competition I or the players want.

“They were better than us in the first half, we have to accept that, no excuses”. I think that’s the message I want to give them.

“We play Liverpool on the Monday (October 17), then we play Fenerbahce on the Thursday (October 20) and then Chelsea on the Sunday (October 23)”.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told the Daily Mail that the Premier League does not give English clubs the same chance to prepare for big Champions League ties as other countries in Europe. This season, Mourinho has brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and due to operating with a lone frontman, Rashford’s appearances have been limited so far. “Perform and you play, it is as simple as that”.

‘We didn’t get that privilege.

“It is not the competition I want, it is not the competition the players want, but it is a competition where we are and that’s the reality. You have to make sure we are not sleeping and that we are not losing before the match starts because you don’t find the right attitude”, Mourinho continued.

“We are not going to make a drama out of it”.

Feyenoord approach the match in fine fettle, having won all five Eredivisie matches to date.

The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester City in Saturday’s derby clash at Old Trafford. ‘Everyone can see what it did to the team when they lost to City.

Morgan Schneiderlin spoke in July about his determination to impress Mourinho and claimed he is hungry enough “to eat football”.

This has pleased many of United’s more senior players as they can now plan days off with family knowing they won’t be asked to drop everything and attend Carrington when called upon. “The players are going to be punished, I am punished, (Feyenoord manager Giovanni) van Bronckhorst will be punished”.
