Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool’s Europa League clash with Manchester United isn’t a holiday as they chase a quarter-final berth.
“I think the challenge to beat Liverpool and the challenge that we are two goals down is a big challenge”, he said.
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera feels it is important that the team repay the faith the fans have showed in them over the past few months by putting in a good performance at Old Trafford on Thursday.
“I always enjoyed it when I played with my former clubs in European tournaments to breathe the stadium where you will play the next night”. We have to deliver. If we do our best it will be hard for Man United to enjoy the game.
“We have to beat them with 2-0, not with 3-0 because we can do that also in extra-time”, he added.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are undefeated in nine European home games, winning their last two at White Hart Lane by three-goal margins, although the Bundesliga giants represent a step up in class from previous opponents.
Van Gaal opined that the home support and the atmosphere at Anfield played to the advantage of his opponents and would relish same from his Theatre of Dreams supporters.
“I am very satisfied about the fans because the results what we have achieved this season are not the results the fans are thinking that we have to fulfil”, Van Gaal said.
“We want to make them happy and make them proud because they always support us and travel all over to do so”.
James Milner trained with Liverpool at Old Trafford having missed the first leg through illness and it remains to be seen whether Klopp will place his trust back in the team that performed so well last week. That’s the main thing. “The atmosphere at Anfield was a big impact also”.
In better news for United, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Antonio Valencia are part of the squad after injury lay-offs.
