Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic: ‘I could play at the age of 50’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has quickly turned into Manchester United’s talisman. West Bromwich Albion had lost just one of their last six games, and that was to league leaders Chelsea so Manchester United had a tough task on their hands but they came out strong.

He was best known for his spells at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, where he played a pivotal role on “that night in Barcelona”.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will spearhead Manchester United’s attack this evening as Jose Mourinho says the “phenomenal” striker is nearly undroppable.

“I’m settling in. I feel happy, I feel good”. Manchester United’s Premier League fixture at The Hawthorns kicks off at 17:30 GMT on Saturday and will be broadcast live on BT Sport in the UK.

But, coinciding with his side’s vastly improved form of late, the Man United boss has stumbled upon a consistent core of players he now trusts to play week in, week out.

Ibrahimovic told reporters: “The older I get, the better I get, like red wine. You like wine? It’s the flawless example”. I am a flawless example of that.

Mourinho, who enjoyed a good relationship with Ibrahimovic at Inter Milan when he was in charge there, said he would need to rest him but he was such an integral part of the side it was hard to omit him.

And, it gets even nicer when those guys return and your team is now struggling and in need of as much help as they can get, as that becomes a win-win situation for both parties and gives them the opportunity of finally being able to play as a starter for their beloved clubs. United were two minutes away from another draw before Ibrahimovic scored against Palace and the price of a stalemate here looks tempting.

“He is doing amazingly well”. I said at half-time to make sure you stay in the game, and as the game grows, we thought we would grow. But it (the games he plays) is something we do together.

“We communicate, we exchange ideas at his situation and his feeling and up until now he is feeling great”. “As a striker it is impossible to hide”. “I have played in different championships in different countries and always adapted”. But a striker can not hide.

“The last thing we wanted was for them to score that second goal”.

Ibrahimovic struck again just after the break when his effort from inside the box went in off Baggies defender Craig Dawson.

An unerring knack of finding the net and a medal-laden CV led to much excitement around Old Trafford when the 35-year-old eventually signed in the summer. Real Madrid, Inter, Barca.

West Brom, one place below United in the table, were far from daunted by the early setback and the reputation of United’s players.
