Manchester United youngster to make England debut against France after shock
Hodgson called Lingard up to the full squad for the first time, for Tuesday’s friendly against France at Wembley, following injuries to Michael Carrick and Jamie Vardy.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Old Trafford, making seven appearances in the last month and scoring his first goal for the club against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Lingard has represented England’s Under-21s on 11 occasions and was a member of the squad that featured in the European Under-21 Championship earlier this year.
Carrick injured his ankle in Friday’s 2-0 defeat by Spain, while Vardy is still troubled by a knock he sustained in Leicester’s game against Watford. He has been with United since the age of 7, having joined the youth ranks of the club in 2000.
Lingard, who has made five Premier League appearances for United, started last season’s opening game against Swansea before being loaned to Derby where he scored twice in 14 appearances, but he has been given his chance due to injuries in the England squad.
But with a long list of players unavailable through injury, Hodgson has had to turn to inexperienced players like Lingard, and Dele Alli and Eric Dier, who are also in the squad.

England returned from Spain on Saturday and, following the tragic events in Paris on Friday night, it was decided that the meeting with France would go ahead.
