Everyone seems to be rejoicing Sakshi Malik winning the bronze medal in wrestling at Rio Olympic Games – may it be social media, mainstream media, Bollywood, politicians, commoners, family members or sports persons.

Sakshi, who belongs to Haryana started the medal tally of India after a long wait on Wednesday after a grand 8-5 score in the play-off.

In his congratulatory message to Sakshi, the Chief Minister said she had created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win an Olympic medal.

Sakshi clinched a bronze medal in Women’s Freestyle 58 kg category with a victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.

Apart from the Indian athletes, there has been considerable interest in India for the Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, who recently won gold in the 100m and 200m races in Rio to take his career gold medal tally to eight.

Sakshi Malik did not really have great ambitions.

India’s Sindhu Pusarla celebrates after defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara during a women’s singles semifinal match at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Aug. 18. I am on cloud nine. Fielding its biggest ever contingent at the Olympic Games, India has pocketed just one bronze medal so far, far away from the double digit medal hope as predicted before the Games. After years of rigourous hardwork, the first bronze that broke the Indian jinx at Rio Olympics is shining bright in every Indian eye.
