Manning returns to practice, but Osweiler still the starter
Manning said he hasn’t decided whether to pursue legal action against Al Jazeera, saying, “I don’t want to deal with that until after the season”.

“It’s just it’s the next step that we need to take”, Kubiak said. “He hasn’t played in [nearly two] months”.
Head coach Gary Kubiak and Manning said Wednesday the expectation is that Manning will serve as the backup to Brock Osweiler, who is now preparing to make his seventh start.
Kubiak said the decision to stick with Brock was a “combination of things”, both Manning’s health and that Osweiler has done a “hell of a job”. “Let’s just keep moving forward and we’ll go from there”.
For the first time in his professional career, Peyton Manning will be a backup.
Manning will finally be back in uniform after missing the last six games because of a torn plantar fascia in his left foot. He said all he could really do is try to help out Osweiler by answering any questions he may or may not have for the future Hall of Famer.
This is by virtue of a 20-17 overtime win over the Cincinnati Bengals by the Broncos Monday, combined with the New York Jets upsetting the New England Patriots 26-20 last Sunday which has given the Broncos a whole world of playoff possibilities.
Regardless of whether Manning has anything left or if the Broncos made the right move, the reality of the situation is that Manning has been benched. Manning was benched for Osweiler after a disastrous two-and-a-half quarters against the Chiefs where he threw four interceptions. And he deserves some props for accepting a role that he hasn’t played since his freshman year at Tennessee. “I don’t know that his issue with his foot is not going away until ultimate rest or doing something with it, which I don’t know”, Kubiak said.
Hmmmmm. He said, she said blah blah blah – we’ve been here before with something Peyton-related, but, Manning’s response was quite PC … even for Manning…. “It shows I think that coach believes in me, but once again, that’s not where my focus is”.
Going back to the 39-year-old icon now would mean ditching the under-center concepts of Kubiak’s offense. I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’ve been a good teammate.
“(Referee) Ed [Hochuli] was very honest with me and said that he got late information but he thinks it was right. It’s new to me. “Obviously, it’s an honor to be back, be back with this organization, have a chance to come to work here every day and represent [Owner] Mr. [Pat] Bowlen and his family and the orange and blue”. A return to shotgun- or pistol-based looks for Manning’s benefit would, in theory, throw off what the Broncos have built down the stretch. “But, you know, our team has a lot of special guys on it, and those guys are willing to fight for sometimes 60-plus minutes”.
Brock Osweiler will remain the starting quarterback when the Broncos take on the Chargers in their last game of the regular season.

The Broncos’ defense put the finishing touch on the game when a shotgun snap went through the arms of Cincinnati quarterback AJ McCarron and linebacker DeMarcus Ware recovered the fumble, ending the overtime possession for the Bengals (11-4), who also are playoff-bound.
