CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago White Sox have had a roller-coaster season, and James Shields has experienced as many sudden drops as anyone. Machado hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a three-run shot in the second – both off White Sox right-hander James Shields – and a two-run homer off reliever Matt Albers in the third.
“It’s pretty awesome”, Machado, 24, said. I was leaving the ball over the plate, and they were capitalizing on it. “You can’t do that against this team”.
Machado hit a two-run homer in the first and a three-run shot in the second off Shields, who got only four outs.
White Sox outfielder Carl Reynolds homered in each of the first three innings of Chicago’s 15-4 win over the Yankees on July 2, 1930.
“I’m sure Manny had some emotions”, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said, “and he certainly took them out on the field with him”.
“Once we got down that much, it was going to be hard to come back because Bundy was just as tough on the other side”, Ventura said.
Now batting.309 with 25 home runs, 67 RBI and a.368 on-base percentage through 105 appearances this season, the veteran infielder has registered the eighth multi-homer game of his career as well on Sunday.
“(The Orioles are) a good hitting ballclub, but on any given day, I feel like I can beat them”, Shields said. Alvarez, a left-handed batter, hit two home runs in Baltimore’s series-opening win Friday, his third straight game with a homer and second two-homer game in the streak. Volquez gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits, walked three, struck out three and surrendered two home runs.
“I don’t know what was more impressive, Dylan, or Ubaldo giving us three big innings there”, Showalter said.
“Hopefully I’ll get an explanation (Sunday)”, Showalter said.
I am glad to see the Orioles put up such a good effort on the road especially with them not being the best road team. He grounded into a double play in the fifth inning and lined out in the seventh.
Chris Tillman (14-4), who started for Baltimore (62-47), went seven innings and took the loss.
The Sox’ only runs came on a Todd Frazier sacrifice fly and a Jose Abreu homer that put the tiniest of dings into the Orioles’ lead.
“As you can see, I missed a few spots”, Bundy said.
Struggling 1B Chris Davis was moved down in the Orioles’ batting order to sixth.

White Sox: CF Austin Jackson (knee surgery) visited teammates Saturday and is off crutches, but isn’t close to beginning baseball work. Manager Robin Ventura hopes 2B Brett Lawrie (hamstring) can begin a minor league rehab assignment during the upcoming nine-game trip. C Alex Avila (hamstring) is still feeling discomfort when he jogs.
