Many teams guilty of doping, claims Arsène Wenger

The English Football Association (FA) on Thursday has asked Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to explain his recent comments on doping.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Wenger discussed the matter of doping in football.

Dinamo Zagreb player Arijan Ademi is having his B sample investigated after failing a drug test when the Croatian side beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Champions League in September. That’s what makes a team and I think they are more balanced and equipped like that to win the league. I’m proud of that.

“We spoke about it. He told me he trusted me, like he did Theo Walcott, but that we were two different players”. It is happening in an era where we glorify whoever wins; whatever the method and means.

“Then, 10 years later we realise the guy was a cheat”. And during that time, the one that came second suffered. He didn’t get recognition.

The former Manchester United striker says his recovery has been tough, but has been given a boost by Arsenal’s impressive form which sees them level on points with table-toppers Manchester City.

A World Anti-Doping Agency commission report has this week accused Russian Federation of running a “state-sponsored” doping programme but the commission chairman, Dick Pound, also said that “it’s probably the tip of the iceberg”.

Wenger has always been an advocate of making advances in drug testing and said it was a matter of personal pride to have never resorted to cheating, while claiming others might have done.

Alexis Sanchez will be treated with caution by Chile but he is still set to play a key role in the nation’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, head coach Jorge Sampaoli has said. “Mathematically that happens every time but statistically, even for social drugs, we would do better to go deeper”. The Frenchman predicted that Ozil would find the net more frequently, but he has only managed two goals in all competitions so far. So I’m sure that the boss would have wanted Campbell to be fit and ready for action when the Gunners take on West Brom next weekend, but we have a big problem there.
