Manziel sparks Browns past 49ers
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel runs to the locker room after his team defeated the 49ers 24-10 in an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Cleveland. “The kid has been enough of a gamer to merit a look for a while and if he keeps this up I could see owner Jimmy Haslam falling in love with him all over again (not that he ever totally ever turned on the kid, otherwise he’d already be gone)”.

Manziel completed 21 of 31 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown. He opened up the offense on three 20-plus yard throws, with his touchdown coming on a two-yard pass to Gary Barnidge.
Isiah Crowell led an unlikely ground assault for Cleveland, finishing as the game’s leading rusher with 145-yards and two touchdowns.
“Maybe we took them for granted”, linebacker Ahmad Brooks said after the game. It was a win we earned.
One of these was the impressive play of quarterback Johnny Manziel.
Just as the San Francisco 49ers aren’t the New England Patriots.
“I think the way he can make the play continue because the play is never over”, Barnidge said. “I know what it means to me. I think the Browns played better than we did and when you do that, you win”.
Quarterback Blaine Gabbert couldn’t get anything going; this just one week after having perhaps his best game as a starter in years. The Seahawks, Chiefs and Steelers, the Browns’ last three opponents, are a combined 24-15.
With the Browns near midfield, Manziel was forced from the pocket and scrambled near the Browns sideline.
Manziel is undoubtedly a polarizing figure, and his off-field antics haven’t necessarily helped his reputation. That’s when he had his temper tantrum. Manziel looked unbridled and relieved and continued the upward trend he’s been on, as far as playing quarterback.
Pettine wasn’t upset with the QB’s heated response. Pettine said after the game, not realizing the team had just tied a franchise record. Coach Mike Pettine said he had no problem with Manziel’s reaction to the interception, saying “when it is towards himself over frustration of doing something boneheaded, I have no problem with it”.
Cleveland’s loss was tempered by the loss of wide receiver Brian Hartline, who broke his collarbone and is done for the season. Shaun Draughn had 43 rushing yards and eight receiving yards.
The 49ers did nothing well. By the time he threw a six-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter, the outcome had been decided.
San Francisco was hurt by penalties, but the bigger issues were with blocking, tackling and overall execution.
There is speculation Jarryd Hayne might be on the verge of a recall to the San Francisco 49ers game-day squad, with Kendall Gaskins – the running back who replaced the Australian on the roster – suffering a concussion in Monday’s humiliating loss to Cleveland.
As a video tribute of his years with the Browns played on the stadium’s scoreboards, Phil Dawson patted his hand over his heart and choked back tears.

“(It’s a) very special day and very hard to stay with my normal routine because of all the emotions and all the well wishes that were there at every turn. The last member of the Browns to top his output was Peyton Hillis, who scorched the Patriots for 184 yards in the previously mentioned game. That eventually might calm the angst over the reported $100,000 study of the quarterback position before the 2014 draft commissioned by the Browns that said they should select Bridgewater.
