Map of Total Solar Eclipse Path in 2017 August
The solar eclipse – which has been dubbed the “Great American Eclipse” – will be visible across the continental United States, and will be total along a line that stretches from OR in the northwest, to North Carolina in the southeast, NASA says.

The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports emergency management crews are planning a response for an estimated 40,000 people during the eclipse on August 21, 2017. “We’ve got to look north and south”. In the meantime, here are seven things you need to know about the 2017 eclipse. The path of the solar eclipse will totally be within the United States. A total solar eclipse will travel north through Mexico and across the eastern United States in April 2024.
The eclipse will start on the West Coast in OR and trace a 67-mile wide path east across the country, finally exiting the East Coast in SC.
Organizers of the Oregon SolarFest are calling it “a rare, mind-blowing cosmic experience”, while Nashville promises visitors “a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event”. The shadow is cast on earth and it envelopes the sky of the earth that it temporarily becomes dark, according to Time and Date.
As the map shows, Minnesota is not in the path of the total eclipse, with Eclipse2017.org estimating Minnesotans will be able to see the moon covering 83 percent of the sun from the Twin Cities.
If you want to take a drive to see the total eclipse, Nebraska or Missouri are probably your best bets.
The 2017 Total Solar Eclipse may be far away at this point of time, but the astronomers and the enthusiasts have already started paying attention to it.
According to exporatorium.edu, no one should ever view the sun with the naked eye or by looking through optical devices such as binoculars or telescopes. NASA recommends wearing glasses with a special filter (you can use number 14 welders glass or buy a cheap pair of special-made paper shades), or using a DIY pinhole projector. The moon has to be between the sun and earth for it to occur, said Boyd, adding this only happens when there is a new moon, but solar eclipses don’t happen at every new moon. Well, Total Solar Eclipse is not something very different from it.

An infinitesimal proportion of all the people who have ever lived have witnessed a total eclipse – but now the possibility is open to anyone lucky enough to be of modest means in the West.
